The Kenya Institute of Bankers is the “Professional umbrella body” for the Banking and Finance sector in Kenya with a membership of 40 banks and Financial Institutions as corporate members and their employees as individual members. The Institute’s primary responsibility is to uphold
the integrity of the Banking profession by promoting Acceptable Banking Standards by certifying professional banking education, training and providing consultancy/counselling, codes of conduct and continuing professional development
programmes.

Diploma in Banking and Financial Services (DBFS), is the first stage in the Institute’s qualifications and is intended to provide a good foundation in Banking and Financial Services. This level is targeted at new entrants in the banking industry who have not had the opportunity of a tertiary education and may lack basic knowledge in banking and finance matters.
KCSE ‘C’ Plain, or 2 years working experience in Banking & Financial Sector, or CPA Part 1, or any other course as may be deemed relevant.

The Associate Examinations covers a wide range of subjects in the Banking and Financial Services industry. Successful completion of the examination leads to the award of the highest Banking Diploma (Associateship Certificate) which is also the highest and final level of any professional banking qualification in Kenya. Holders of the Associateship Certificate are designated as “Associate of the Kenya Institute of Bankers”, AKIB.
Holders of KIB Diploma, or First degree, or CPA Part II, or any other course as may be deemed relevant.

The Specialized Diploma in Banking and Financial Services (SDBFS) Courses are open to all banks and other financial services staff in Clerical, Supervisory and Management positions. They must be ready to meet the cost/stipulated fees of the programme including registration, tuition and examinations.

Kenya Institute of Bankers in Partnership with Chartered Institute for Securities Investment (CISI) promote professionalism in the financial sector through well designed courses for students.
Courses offered include:
The Banking Skills upgrading Training was developed with the support of both KBA and NITA to address the Technical and Behavioral areas of Personnel serving in the banking and financial services sector. This Training is Job related and highly suitable for those already in employment. Those who complete the Training after Module III will be granted substantial Exemption Credits for admissions as Qualified Bankers under the Associateship Qualification in (A) above.
